National holiday road toll rises to 53
The national holiday toll has risen to 53 after a man died when his car hit a tree
in central Queensland.
The man died at the scene, raising Queensland's holiday road toll to 11.
Police will examine whether a medical condition may have contributed to the crash,
which happened at 2.30pm (AEST) on Woodbury Road, Yeppoon on Thursday.
Victoria continues to top the holiday road toll with 16 deaths.
NSW and Western Australia have had 10 fatalities each.
There have been four deaths in the Northern Territory and one each in South
Australia and Tasmania.
The Australian Capital Territory remains fatality free.
