Iran grants scholarship to al-Zaidi

Tehran, Dec 31, IRNA - Deputy minister of science, research and technology announced the
ministry's readiness to grant scholarship to the Iraqi reporter
Muntadhar al-Zaidi, who threw his shoes at the US President George W.
Bush in a symbolic move.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a gathering of heads of
provincial Payam-e Nour universities on Tuesday, Mohammad Hosseini
hoped that he will be acquitted after the court hearing due to be held
this week.

He added that al-Zaidi can continue his studies in any of the Iranian
universities that he chooses.

Students at Payam-e Nour universities supported al-Zaidi after he
threw his shoes at Bush and granting scholarship to him signifies
continued support, Hosseini concluded.
