UAE's Federal National Council condemns Israeli aggression on Gaza
Abu Dhabi, Dec 31, 2008 (WAM) - The Federal National Council (FNC) of the United Arab Emirates yesterday condemned, in the strongest terms, the continued Israeli airstrikes on Gaza Strip which started on Saturday.
Speaker of FNC Abdul Aziz Abdullah Al Ghurair voiced the condemnation at the opening of FNC's 3rd session of the 14th legislative chapter. Present were Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Minister of State for FNC Affairs Dr. Mohammed Anwar Gargash, Minister of State Maryam Al Roumi and Minister of Economy Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansouri.
Al Ghurair called on the international community to take immediate action to stop the Israeli aggression, provide protection for Palestinians and put an end to their suffering.
He said FNC supports the position of the UAE's Government on the situation in Gaza as well as its calls to the League of Arab States to hold an emergency meeting for Arab Foreign Ministers to eventually take a unified Arab stand to put an end to this aggression.
Al Ghurair hailed the decision of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to dispatch urgent humanitarian aid to Gaza Strip.
He further approved the calls to hold an emergency meeting by Arab Parliamentarian Union and any parliamentarian efforts to support the Palestinian people.
Al Ghurair expressed hopes the current 29th. GCC Summit in Muscat would give a further push forward the march of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
