Final Communiqué of Muscat summit

Muscat, Dec 31, 2008 (WAM) - Their Majesties and Highnesses, the AGCC leaders, yesterday, issued the Final Communiqué, on the conclusion of their 29th Summit in Muscat, Below is the full of text of the communiqué as published by Oman News Agency (ONA):

"Upon the kind invitation by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, Sultan of Oman, the AGCC Supreme Council held its 29th Session in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman on Monday and Tuesday, 1st '&' 2nd Muharam 1430 AH corresponding to Dec 29th and 30th 2008 under the chairmanship of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, Sultan of Oman, Chairman of the current session of the Supreme Council in the presence of Their Majesties and Highnesses : Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), King Hamad bin Issa al Khalifa, of the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz al Saud, of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani, Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Sabah al Ahmad al Jabir al Sabah, Emir of Kuwait.

His Excellency, Abdul Rahman bin Hamad al Attiyah, AGCC Secretary-General also took part in the meeting.

The Council congratulated His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, Sultan of Oman, for presiding over the current session of the Supreme Council, hailing the contents and the sound vision included in His Majesty's royal speech and his keenness to activate the march of cooperation among the AGCC states in all fields, extending and developing it to a wider and stronger horizons in the forthcoming period, God's willing.

The Council expressed its appreciation for the great efforts exerted by the State of Qatar, led by His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani, Emir of Qatar, during his chairmanship of the AGCC Supreme Council's last session and for his support for march of joint cooperation in various fields.

The Supreme Council has also welcomed the setting of the Joint Saudi-Qatari Co-ordination Council which reflects the great keenness accorded by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz al Saud, of Saudi Arabia, and His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani, Emir of Qatar to consolidate the relations between the two brotherly countries and developing them in various spheres. The Council also hailed the agreements reached at the first meeting of the joint Co-ordination Council aimed at enhancing fruitful co-operation between the two countries in economic, trade, industrial, political, security, military, environmental, health, cultural and media fields.

The Supreme Council also valued the great efforts exerted by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz al Saud of Saudi Arabia for convening "the World Conference on Dialogue" in Madrid, so as to promote dialogue among religions, cultures and the noble meanings meant by them. It also valued the generous initiative to convene a Dialogue Conference among followers of religions and cultures in a high caliber meeting held at the United Nations General Assembly which had received the world's good response, support and interaction. The initiative was aimed at highlighting the importance of dialogue, respect of humanity, establishing bonds and relations among nations and civilizations, consolidating human and religious joint values and correct the faulted conceptions aimed at degrading the Islamic values.

The Supreme Council has also welcomed the convening of the Arab Economic, Developmental and Social Summit in the State of Kuwait. It stressed the economic and developmental dimension of the Summit in enhancing the Inter-Arab relations and activating the Arab joint action.

The Supreme Council also congratulated President Michael Sulaiman of the Lebanese Republic on his election as President of brotherly Lebanon, and for the reconciliation and agreement, which have been achieved in all spheres in accordance with the framework of "Doha Accord" and the restoration of diplomatic relations between the two brotherly countries, Syria and Lebanon. The Communiqué stated that the Supreme Council is looking forward to continue dialogue among the Lebanese brothers to achieve all that could enhance security, stability and prosperity for the brotherly Lebanese people.
