Dubai, Dec 31, 2008 (WAM) - HE Dr. Hanif Hassan, UAE Minister of Education said that the examination and assessment system developed by the ministry two years ago has been proved efficient and successful.
While paying a visit to the examination and evaluation committees in Fatima Al Zahra and Al Andalus Schools in Sharjah, the minister also said that the report presented by the advisers at the ministry proved that beginning with grade 12 the new system also ensured positive interaction by the students. It also encouraged students to give more attention to learning and acquiring knowledge, he added.
The system aims for raising the standards of students especially the semester exams depending on new international academic standards and criteria.
The Minister was accompanied by Rashid Salem Lakhraibani, Director General of the Ministry, Yusuf Al Sharyani, Executive Director for Educational Affairs, Fouzia Hassan, Director of Sharjah Education Zone, and Obaid Al Muhairi, Manager of the Minister's Office.
The Ministry of Education prepared various research, studies and projects that encourage students to independent learning and skill development. All Grade 12 examination papers are based on the curriculum, development of students' skills and their understanding of the subject rather than memorization.
The Minister lauded the efforts of both examination and evaluation committees and reassured the ministry's confidence in their commitment towards students and the education process. The minister also lauded the project of Sharjah Education Zone during the semester break which includes various recreational, cultural and scientific programs for the students during their break time.
Rashid Salem Lakhraibani, the Director General of the Ministry announced that there is accurate follow up of the examination process in cooperation with the educational districts, councils and schools.
'Grade 12 examination papers enhance critical thinking skills and take into consideration the different standards of students, adult learners and home schooling students. The questions were clear, precise and direct. We encourage students to be calm when writing their answers', he said.
