Over 24,000 camels line up at Dhafra Festival
Abu Dhabi, Dec 31, 2008 (WAM) - Over 24,000 camels lined up in the desert in the Western region to enliven the world's largest camel festival. Tens of thousands of visitors from UAE and abroad flocked to the festival site, where several satellite television channels kept themselves busy capturing the events of the Dhafra Festival.
Over 350 media persons are at the site, where the world's most beautiful camel will be crowned.
Held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and organised by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage from December 23, 2008 until January 1, 2009 in Zayed City in the Western Region, Dhafra Festival 2009 has, during its second session, witnessed many innovations at the organisational, administrative and media levels.
Hundreds of UAE, Arab and international media outlets used the distinguished Media Center which was a shining beacon of Dhafra Festival whose website was launched by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage in both Arabic and English during the activities.
Meanwhile, the organisers launched the festival's logo, which was immaculately designed in both Arabic and English; mixing the art of the Arabic calligraphy in a beautifully harmonious design with the English typography together formed an instrument of expression.
The logo is supported by professional graphic touches to highlight its beauty. It is decorated by the elegant metal camel colour, and solid brown, expressing the nature of the desert region which is known for its natural resources and dazzling landscape. These colours also reflect camels, which are the symbol of ancient heritage and the axis of Arabs' lives in the past.
The High Organising Committee's choice of the word 'Dhafra' as the festival's logo was not a coincidence. Indeed, the word bears a meaning and implications in defining originality, deep-rootedness and the blending of the past with the present.
The organisers claimed that the design of the festival's logo stems from an essential element which has been harnessed to communicate the event's idea and message through Arabic calligraphy.
The design uses the art of the Arabic calligraphy in a beautifully harmonious way besides the English typography. The logo is finally a shape that is an expressive tool which says that the festival is a regional and international event.
The logo is adorned by the metallic camel color and solid brown is used to give a feeling of warmth, simplicity, friendliness, and fresh attitude.
Natural colors are in harmony to describe the traditional atmosphere lived by visitors of Zayed City and which merge with modern goals of Dhafra Festival.
The event has helped put Dhafra and the Western Region on the world map of tourism and make the festival a real carnival that is able to attract visitors from all countries of the region and the world.
