NIHR VP receives Swedish Permanent Representative

Geneva, Oct. 5 (BNA): National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)'s vice president Abdullah al-Dirazi met the Geneva-based Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Sweden to the United Nations, Ambassador Veronica Bard. Maria Khoury, Head of National Institution's Complaints, Monitoring and Follow up Committee, who attended the meeting, explained the role of the committee in receiving citizens and residents complaints and addressing the competent bodies in the Kingdom for clarification and reaching drastic solutions as well as legal assistance provided by the National Institution. She also gave profiles about the types and mechanisms of receiving complaints and how to deal with complaints. Al Dirazi explained the role undertaken by the National Institution as per its creation law and jurisdiction in terms of national legislations revision to ensure compatibility with the relevant international human rights conventions, and preparation of views on bills of laws tabled by the legislature. The NIHR's Acting/Assistant Secretary-General Yasser Shaheen was also present during the meeting.
