UNESCO to evaluate situation in Zabid soon

HODEIDAH, Dec. 30 (Saba) - A committee from UNESCO is to arrive in Zabid city next month to evaluate its archeological situation and the implementation of the government's commitments to preserve the city within the World Heritage List.

Director of Zabid office of the General Organization for the Preservation of
Historic Cities of Yemen (GOPHCY) Nabil Manassar told Saba that if the Yemeni side
has not fulfill their commitments in the preservation Zabid city, it will be removed
from the World Heritage List.

Mansur affirmed that the GOPHCY has taken several measures in cooperation with
Historic Cities Development Program to preserve the city of Zabid and keep it in the
World Heritage List.

On the other hands, Hodeidah Governor Ahmed al-Jabali held talks with Director
GOPHCY Zabid office in Yemen Nabil Manassar and director of GTZ-funded Historic
Cities Development Project on the mechanism of conserving Zabid city and ways of
assisting Hodeidah governorate to keep the city in World Heritage List.

Governor affirmed the importance of preserving the architectural style of Zabid and
removing all breaches in the city.
