Foreign Minister to attend UN Development Summit

New York, Sep.25 (BNA): The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Khalifa, arrived in New York, US, to take part in the UN Summit for the Adoption of the Post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals, representing His Majesty the King. He will also take part in the 70th session of the UN General Assembly, which this year will discuss a large number of major issues in regards to challenges facing the world and to reach a solution to bolster international security and peace, including the Palestinian issue, the situation in Yemen and Syrian, the refugees problems, in addition to combating terrorism and racism. Other issues include sustainable development, preventing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and human rights. The Minister of Foreign Affairs will participate on the sidelines of the General Assembly’s 70th session in coordination meetings for GCC ministers of foreign affairs, the Arab group ministerial meeting and the Islamic Cooperation Organization. He will also meet with a number of foreign ministers from friendly countries and senior officials from the international organization. On this occasion, the Minister of Foreign Affairs affirmed that the 70th session of the UN General Assembly will witness important activities and meetings in view of the events taking place in the region and the world and which endanger many countries. He stressed that the session is of great interest to the Kingdom of Bahrain, which constantly works on strengthening its relations with various countries in the world. This is in addition to the interest of Arab countries, which are fundamentally involved in issues and crises of great impact and grave danger on international security and stability, seeking with great transparency to find the solutions. The Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed hope that the 70th session of the UN General Assembly will yield more international effort and stronger cooperation between various countries to achieve sustainable development and prosperity for the benefit of people across the world.
