LG Display develops new LCD panel for TV
SEOUL, Dec. 30 (Yonhap) -- LG Display Co., the world's second-largest maker of liquid crystal displays (LCD), said Tuesday it has developed an LCD panel for TV screens with unprecedentedly quick transition times from light to dark.
The company said in a statement that a product called, "Trumotion 480 HZ," can
achieve a refresh rate of 480 Hertz, drawing data it is given at a speed of not
more than 4 milliseconds, a unit of time equal to four thousandth of a second.
LCD technology is not usually rated by frames per second but rather the time it
takes to transition, according to experts.
The new LCD panel would reduce drastically the smearing and blurring that still
occurs when something moves too fast for LCDs with a standard refresh rate of 120
Hertz or 240 Hertz to portray, a company official said.
LG Display said it will unveil the prototype of the newly developed panel at the
International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the world's largest home
electronics fair, in January.
