Abdullah Bin Zayed receives note from Ban Ki-moon
Abu Dhabi, Dec 30, 2008 (WAM) - UAE Foreign Minister H.H Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan yesterday received a letter from Secretary General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon.
In the letter, Ki-moon hailed the UAE's humanitarian aid of $ 8 million. He further expressed confidence that the UAE would continue its international humanitarian efforts through contributing to the global humanitarian appeal for the year 2009 which was launched by the United Nations from Geneva to raise $ 7 billion to help needy people in 31 countries.
Ki-moon called on the UAE to take part in the meeting of donors in January 2009 in Geneva to discuss and coordinate their strategies, priorities, and responses to the Consolidated Appeals.
The Secretary General underscored stronger relations between the UN and the UAE at all levels.
The United Nations lauded the UAE for hosting the global humanitarian appeal in Abu Dhabi in November to help 30 million needy people globally. The appeal was also launched from the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG) The UN appeal was launched for the first time from a Middle Eastern city and aimed to raise $7 billion in the aid of millions of needy people all over the world.
