RCA on ground in Gaza

Abu Dhabi, Dec 30, 2008 (WAM) - UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) has started its humanitarian and relief operations to save the victims of the current events taking place in Gaza.

As per special directives from President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the RCA HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan is actively following up the relief operations aimed at alleviating the sufferings of the victims of the Israeli aerial attacks.

The first phase of the RCA assistance will cost over AED 8mn, which will be used to buy urgent medical needs, medicines and equipments for treating the injured, and to provide food and other needs for the people of Gaza.

RCA is coordinating its relief works with the local and international relief agencies in Gaza. The Emergency office set up at RCA in line with the directives of Sheikh Hamdan is constantly following up the situation on ground in Gaza.

Secretary General of the RCA Ahmed Ghaith Yusuf Al Suwaidi said that this programme is implemented in response to the directives of HH President to alleviate the sufferings of the people of Gaza brought by the happenings there.
