Jets, Mariners issued 'please explain'

Football Federation Australia has ordered Newcastle and Central Coast to explain why
they should not be sanctioned over an on-field scuffle after their A-League match
last Friday.
The melee broke out after the Mariners' come-from-behind 2-1 victory over their
regional rivals at Newcastle.
Among the incidents was an alleged confrontation between Mariners skipper John
Hutchinson and star Jets striker Joel Griffiths.
Hutchinson kicked the ball into a contingent of Newcastle fans while Griffiths
allegedly put his hands around the Mariners' captain's neck.
Striker Dylan Macallister was shown a red card for using abusive language during the
ensuing scuffle.
Both clubs have been given until Friday to respond, with FFA warning sanctions could
include a fine, a reprimand, a deduction of points or a combination of both.
The A-League's match review panel on Monday determined neither Griffiths nor
Hutchinson would be punished further.
It also opted for the minimum one-match suspension for Macallister, meaning he will
only miss Wednesday night's match against Perth in Gosford.
The panel also decided there would be no action taken against Melbourne striker
Danny Allsopp, who knocked over Sydney FC coach John Kosmina during Victory's 3-2
win at Telstra Dome on Saturday night.
