Bahrain to participate in world Speakers' conference

Manama, Aug. 25 (BNA): Speaker of the Council of Representatives Ahmed bin Ibrahim Al-Mulla will head the parliament’s delegation to the Fourth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament. The summit, to be held at United Nations Headquarters in New York on August 31 - September 2, will be attended by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Saber Chowdhury. About 150 speakers of parliaments will take part in the conference that convenes every five years. The overall theme of the Conference will focus on peace, democracy, and successful implementation of sustainable development’s agenda. Chowdhury and Ki-Moon will open the international conference and give key note speeches, and then a series of vital political issues related to the current challenges faced by parliaments will be reviewed.
