RCA to execute emergency relief programme for victims of Israeli aggression in Gaza
Abu Dhabi, Dec. 29, 2008 (WAM) - The UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) will, as a matter of urgency, embark upon an emergency relief programme to reach out to the victims of the ongoing Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip. The kind gesture is in line with the directives of President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al-Nahyan and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, H.H. General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The programme is to be executed in collaboration with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and other international humanitarian organisations operating in the Gaza Strip.
Deputy Prime Minister and RCA Chairman, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has ordered the setting up of an emergency committee to closely follow up developments in Gaza and meet the humanitarian needs there in collaboration with the international humanitarian organisations.
According to RCA board chairman, Dr. Ali bin Abdullah Al-Ka'abi, his outfit is currently coordinating with the UNRWA, the ICRC, the UNICEF, FAO, WHO and other international organisations to provide the necessary humanitarian assistance to the victims. He said the RCA would make swift money transfers to those organisations to purchase on the local markets the essential commodities needed to alleviate the sufferings of the victims, adding that the RCA will also provide for health institutions in Gaza medicines and other medical items needed, in addition to food parcels and temporary shelter-related items.
