Vietnam urges stronger trade ties with Indonesia

Jakarta (VNA) - A leading Vietnamese legislative official has urged Vietnam and
Indonesia to boost their economic and trade cooperation to make the most of
their potential.

National Assembly Deputy Chairman Uong Chu Luu highlighted the role played by
Indonesia in the region and the world, particularly in the Association of Southeast
Asian Nations and the Non-Aligned Movement, while meeting with staff of the
Vietnamese Embassy and other agencies in Indonesia .

Luu is leading a delegation to the third ASEAN Parliamentary Assembly (APA-3),
scheduled for Nov. 27-29 in Jakarta .

The event, themed " Asia and New Global Financial Architecture Demand", attracted
219 delegates from 28 Asian parliaments.

In his opening speech, Speaker of Indonesia's House of Representatives (DPR) Agung
Laksono called upon Asian parliaments to take measures to overcome the global
financial crisis, boost energy security for sustainable development in the region
and increase food production to ensure food security.

APA-3 also focuses on climate change as well as global warming.

The 39-member APA's plenary session is held annually. This year's session plans to
approve the Jakarta declaration and 15 resolutions on efforts to deal with the
global financial crisis, poverty reduction and environmental protection.-Enditem
