S. Korea mulls new system to fingerprint foreign visitors
SEOUL, Dec. 27 (Yonhap) -- South Korea is considering fingerprinting all foreign visitors as part of its anti-terrorism campaign, government officials said
Saturday.
The government is seeking to revise the immigration law so that all foreign
nationals will be required to provide biometric fingerprints data when they
arrive in South Korea, said the Justice Ministry officials.
The ministry plans to submit a law revision to the National Assembly next year
with the aim of implementing the fingerprinting system in 2010 at the earliest,
they said.
Should the new law be adopted, South Korea would be the third country after the
United States and Japan to have a similar fingerprinting system in effect.
