Foreign Minister Meets Head Of UN's Mission In Baghdad

BAGHDAD / NINA / Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari confirmed that Iraq looks with interest and satisfaction to the work of the UN mission and its president, expressing his ministry's readiness to provide necessary assistance and facilities to the work of the mission and maintain communication with the Iraqi parties. Jaafari, during a meeting with the representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Jan Kubiš, according to the foreign ministry's statement today, praised "the keenness of the representative of the Secretary-General to achieve communication with the Iraqi Foreign Ministry. For his part, the representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations reviewed efforts and consultations carried out during the last period with the Security Council and its permanent members and the Secretariat of the United Nations, as well as the US secretary of State on the renewal of the mandate of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq UNAMI, noting that the mission held consultations with the American side and the neighboring countries and urged everyone to provide assistance and support to the Iraqi government and people.
