BOC, UoB sign Shaikh Nasser Award deal

Manama, June 22 (BNA): The Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) recently established a partnership with the University of Bahrain (UoB) for this year’s edition of Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa Scientific Research Award in the field of sports. The award, in its third edition, aims at promote positive attitudes towards scientific research to create knowledge and contribute to the development of sports movement. The partnership was initiated during BOC General Secretary Abdulrahman Askar’s meeting with UoB president Dr Ebrahim Janahi. Dr Janahi showed willingness to provide all means of financial support to the prestigious event, in an attempt to make this year’s event a huge success. The university has offered its main hall to host the award activities, as Dr Janahi announced a complete plan, which serves the university’s objectives. Both sides also had talks to conduct a field survey for the fitness project of the International Council for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Sports and Dance, to evaluate the Bahraini youth physical fitness levels. On his part, Askar briefed Janahi on the project and the ongoing cooperation with the officials in Canada to develop a scientific methodology, which includes the Long Term Athlete Development and Road to Podium programmes to develop competitive sports in Bahrain. Also present at the meeting were UoB vice-president Dr Waheeb Al Nasser, Shaikh Nasser Award general secretary Dr Abdulrahman Sayyar, UoB physical education faculty dean Dr Mona Al Ansari and BOC projects director Lounes Madene.
