2nd GCC parliamentary meeting kicks off in Muscat
Muscat, Dec 24, 2008 (WAM) - The second meeting of the speakers of GCC Shoura councils, houses of representatives and parliaments started yesterday in the Omani capital.
The UAE is taking part in the said meeting with a delegation led by Speaker of the Federal National Council of the UAE Abdul Aziz Al Ghurair.
Speaker of the Omani Shoura Council Sheikh Ahmed Bin Mohammed Al Esa'ee said the meeting comes ahead of the upcoming 29th GCC Summit and amid an economic crisis.
He expressed hopes that the current 2-day meeting would result in the laying of foundations for a regular meeting for GCC parliamentary bodies.
Speaker of the Qatari Shoura Council Mohammed Al khaleifi too gave a speech at the opening ceremony which was followed by a behind-closed-doors session by the heads and members of the participating delegations of the six GCC states.
