Iranian karatekas stand second in Malaysia competitions

Kuala Lumpur, Dec 23, IRNA - Iranian karate team stood second in the 2nd Asian KOI Karate
Championships in Cube Osaka style in Kuala Lumpur on Monday.

Iranian karatekas snatched five gold, six silver and 15 bronze medals
in the competitions.

In the first day of the competitions, Iranian karatekas snatched one
gold, one silver and three bronze medals on Saturday.

Babak Fakheri defeated his six rivals from China, Malaysia, Indonesia
and Singapore and bagged the gold medal.

Alireza Askari defeated his three rivals from India, the United Arab
Emirates and Russia and clinched the silver medal.

Mohadese Safari-Fard, Parisa Faraj-Zadeh and Shaqayeq Hajari won the
bronze medals.

In the second day of the competition, Iranian karatekas snatched two
gold, one silver and one bronze medals on Sunday.

Farza Aqa-Ali Rouya (55-kg category) defeated his four rivals from
India, Malaysia, Kyrgyzstan and Iran to bag the gold medal.

Reza-Zadeh (60 kg) defeated his four rivals from India, Iran, Vietnam
and Uzbekistan and clinched the gold medal.

Mehdi Kamani (55 kg) and Alireza Barzegar (80 kg) won the silver and
bronze medals respectively.

Some 700 karatekas from 22 countries are participating in the event.
The championships started on December 19 and ended on December 21.
