Revenues from Dubai Metro stations naming '&' funding rights top Dh1b: RTA
Dubai, Dec 23, 2008 (WAM) - Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) yesterday announced the first batch of winning companies in the international bid of the Naming Rights of Dubai Metro Stations and the two lines; the Red Line which will be operated in September 2009, and the Green Line to be operated in March 2010.
The announcement was made by Mattar Al-Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the RTA at a press conference held yesterday at Madinat Jumeirah Hotel that was attended by chairmen of companies who won stations naming rights and those who are contributing to the finance of stations construction.
Tayer said the Naming Rights Project is the first of its kind worldwide in raising revenues from public transport infrastructure and is capable of improving transport services through a partnership funding created by Naming Rights initiative.
He added that Total proceeds raised from the bidding of the first batch of Dubai Metro Stations Naming Rights bid and funding deals for metro stations almost hit 1.804 billion dirham.
"The initiative sets a new global benchmark in the field of naming rights and partnerships between public and private sectors. At the top of the brands that met the selections criteria of Metro Naming rights and partnership with the RTA are Majid Al-Futtaim Group (Mall of the Emirates Station) and (Deira City Centre Station).
The list also includes Emirates Telecommunication Corporation (Etisalat Station), Gulf General Investment Company (GGICO Station), Sharaf DG Station, First Gulf Bank Station, Nakheel which has 3 stations namely: (Nakheel Station, The Palm Deira Station and Nakheel Harbour '&' Tower Station) and Dubai Airport Free Zone Station, said Al-Tayer.
"Companies and organisations that contributed to funding Dubai Metro Stations include Dubai Holding; which will build 6 stations namely: Creek, Jaddaf, Emirates Towers, Dubai Health Care City, TECOM and Business Bay. The list also includes Emirates Airlines (Emirates Station, Emaar (Burj Dubai Station, and Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (Jumeirah Lakes Towers).
"The Dubai Metro's naming rights project is a world-first revenue model for public transport infrastructure and the first programme of its kind to help improve transport services with partnership funding raised through a naming rights initiative", he remarked.
