Hyundai Motor launches China-made Sonata sedan
Seoul, Dec 23 (Yonhap) -- Hyundai Motor Co., South Korea's top carmaker, said Tuesday it has begun selling a China-made model of its Sonata sedan in the world's most populous country.
The revamped model, with a name that combines two Chinese characters to produce
the sound "Ling Xiang," is the second Hyundai model built at its Chinese plant.
The company said in a statement that the move is part of an effort to woo
customers in China, without providing a sales target.
The launch of the China-made Sonata sedan comes as many analysts expect Hyundai
to miss this year's sales target there, as a downdraft in auto sales growth in
the world's No. 2 auto market seems increasingly likely.
Hyundai originally planned to sell 380,000 vehicles in China this year. In the
first 11 months of the year, the automaker sold 253,146 units there.
