Jubouri, Blinken Discuss Washington's Efforts To Support Iraq In Its War Against ISIS

Washington / NINA / House Speaker Salim al-Jubouri met Deputy Foreign Minister Anthony Blinken, where he discussed the international coalition efforts to help Iraq in its war against ISIS. A statement issued by the US State Department said al-Jubouri discussed with Blinken the decision of US President Barack Obama to send 450 US military personnel to train and assist Iraqi forces and the Sunni tribes in planning and conducting military operations against ISIS. The two sides stressed the need to continue to support Iraq within the framework of the Strategic Framework Agreement and develop the policy initiatives to meet the needs of the Iraqi people and to promote cooperation and reconciliation among all components of the Iraqi people." The two sides also discussed the worsening humanitarian crisis in Iraq with the presence of more than three million displaced people, stressing the urgent need for additional support from the international community to address the humanitarian needs ./ End
