Police urged to take part in curbing economic decline
Hanoi (VNA) - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung as asked the police force to gain a
thorough grasp of the Government's five-solutions package so as to join other forces
and sectors in tackling the economy's decline, taming inflation, stabilising the
macro-economy, ensuring social security and maintaining a sustainable growth rate.
The government leader made this request during the police force's 64 th national
conference in Ho Chi Minh City on Dec. 22 where he pointed to the current
economic decline, which is affecting production levels and people's lives and is
creating obstacles to the maintenance of security and social order.
He outlined the need for the police to establish efficient institutional tools in
order to ensure security and social order and, at the same time, support economic
development.
The police should step up inspections and surveillance of citizens' law abidance,
PM Dung said, citing the remarkable drop in traffic accidents this year as an
example of the law's due inspections influencing the population to wear crash
helmets.
He praised the police force for their significant contributions to national
socio-economic development by ensuring security, stability and social order in the
country.
The police force has played a prominent role in foiling peaceful evolution plots, in
addition to acting as an advisor to the Government in the areas such as economics,
science and technology and, particularly in the fight against crime to ensure the
creation of a stable environment for a wide range of peaceful activities, PM Dung
stated.
At the conference, the police force reviewed their achievements during 2008 and
outlined their work for 2009.-Enditem
