Iran for peace, stability in region: MP
Tehran, Dec 22, IRNA - Iran has always underlined the need for peace and stability in the region, particularly in the Caucasus, said the rapporteur of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission.
In a meeting with EU Foreign Policy Chief Javier Solana's
representative for Caucasus affairs, Peter Semneby, Kazem Jalali added
that Iran's policy is based on understanding and peaceful settlement
of crises.
Stating that EU has a special position in Iran's foreign policy, he
said that Tehran believes that EU can play a constructive role in the
region and world.
Criticizing the narrow-minded policies of certain European politicians
regarding Iran and the world, Jalali added that there are numerous
potentials for strengthening of cooperation in various fields
including fighting terrorism, drug smuggling and solving security
issues in the Middle East and the Caucasus.
EU can increase cooperation with Iran within the framework of a
comprehensive plan at the regional and international levels, Jalali
said.
Stating that interference of foreign elements in the region will have
adverse effect on regional and international security and stability,
he added that peace and security in the region is only possible with
the cooperation of regional countries.
Other countries can support this through constructive decisions and
strengthening infrastructures for development, the lawmaker said.
Semneby, for his part, referred to the history of Iranian officials'
talks about the Caucasus and said that Iran's approach to the issues
of the Caucasus has always been constructive.
He also welcomed Iran's cooperation with EU to solve regional security
issues and underlined the need for interaction between the two sides.
