Abu Dhabi, Dec 22, 2008 (WAM) - H.H. Gen. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, yesterday expressed his hope that the European Parliament would contribute to shaping balanced responsible European policies towards conflicts in the region, including the Arab-Israeli conflict, that serve entrenching pillars of stability.
Sheikh Mohammed stressed the importance of strengthening channels of communications and cooperation, promoting dialogue and understanding between the Gulf Cooperation Council and Europe and focusing on challenges facing all of ''us''.
Sheikh Mohammed made his remarks during talks with President of the European Parliament Hans Gert Pottering, who is currently visiting the UAE as part of a Gulf tour.
''Parliamentary diplomacy should play a tangible role in expanding joint cooperation and removing all obstacles hindering constructive GCC-EU partnerships," Sheikh Mohammed affirmed.
He also hoped that international crises would act as a consolidating factor for more rapprochement and consultation and joint action for handling consequences and risks of such crises for the interest of all humanity.
Sheikh Mohammed and his guest reviewed a host of regional and international topics of mutual interest including the Middle East peace process.
Bilateral relations and ways of boosting cooperation between the UAE and EU were also discussed.
