HM King orders relief aid for Yemen

Manama, May 27 (BNA): Bahrain will dispatch urgent humanitarian relief aid to Yemeni people as part of efforts to alleviate their hardships and meet their basic needs, particularly goods, foodstuffs and medication. His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa today directed the Royal Charity Organisation (RCO) to extend the urgent lifeline, in a move stemming from fraternal bonds with the Yemeni people. HM the King assigned his Representative for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS) President, RCO Board of Trustees’ Chairman His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al-Khalifa to carry out the directives. HM the King, also RCO Honorary President, issued directives to ensure the relief aid reaches Yemen quickly and benefits as many social segments as possible so as to help alleviate their suffering. HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al-Khalifa hailed the royal move, paying tribute to HM the King for his keenness on extending relief aid to distressed people and helping needy and affected persons to alleviate their suffering. He extended thanks to HM the King, hailing his royal initiatives and keenness on helping the needy, which stems from the human bonds linking all people in the world and reflects brotherly relations bonding Bahrain and Yemen. He affirmed Bahrain’s stance in support of the Yemeni people to restore hope and alleviate their suffering, reiterating the Kingdom’s drive to provide economic and humanitarian support. He lauded His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier for their support. Pursuant to the royal directives, HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al-Khalifa issued an edict appointing RCO Secretary-General Dr. Mustapha Al-Sayyed to chair the Bahrain Committee for Supporting Yemeni People. The panel will include officials representing the Yemeni Embassy, Bahrain Red Crescent Society, the Ministries of Health, Information and Social Development and the RCO, in addition to members of other charity and professional associations. In a statement today, Dr. Al-Sayyed said that a meeting was held with the National Relief Committee members to join efforts and provide urgent assistance, taking into account the humanitarian situation in Yemen. The meeting focused on preparing the first relief aid consignment which will be sent to the Yemeni people, in line with the royal directives. . Social Development Ministry NGOs director Najwa Janahi said that letters would be sent to all associations to urge them to join efforts with the Bahrain Committee for Supporting Yemeni People.
