Boosting Bahrain-EU human rights cooperation discussed

Manama, May 27 (BNA): The Shura Council Human Rights Committee chaired by Ahmed Al-Haddad met EU Special Representative for Human Rights, Stavros Lambrinidis, and the accompanying delegation. The meeting discussed cooperation and ways to benefit from European human rights expertise to ensure Bahraini legislation is compatible with international standards and agreements ratified by Bahrain. The Shura human rights committee stressed the resolve of the legislative branch in cooperation with the government to protect and promote human rights. and underscored its intention to invite representatives from the European Union to visit Bahrain to watch Bahrain's achievements in the field of human rights. The committee highlighted keenness to establish cooperation with the European Union to further boost human rights in Bahrain. The EU delegation praised developments witnessed by Bahrain in the field of human rights in recent years and the establishment of human rights institutions.
