Hanwha Chemical begins mass carbon nanotube production

By Nam Kwang-sik
SEOUL, Dec. 22 (Yonhap) -- South Korean chemicals maker Hanwha Chemical Corp.
said Monday that it has started mass production of carbon nanotubes used in such
fields as nano technology, electronics, optics and other materials science.

Hanwha Chemical said in a statement that its plant in Incheon, a city 40
kilometers west of Seoul, has the annual capacity to produce 100kg of
single-walled carbon nanotubes and 4 tons of multi-walled carbon nanotubes.
Hanwha Chemical has a plan to invest 100 billion won (US$77.8 million) in the
carbon nanotube sector by 2013 with the aim of posting more than 250 billion won
in sales of carbon nanotubes in 2015, it said.
In May, Hanwha Chemical took over Iljin Nanotech Co., a South Korean carbon
nanotube producer, which was renamed Hanwha Nanotech Corp.
