Yemen, UNDP discuss supporting fishery projects

SANA'A, Dec. 21 (Saba) - Yemen and United Nations Development
Program (UNDP) discussed here on Sunday fisheries projects under
supporting the various promising sectors to be implemented by the
Program in the second half of 2009.

During his meeting with Minister of Fisheries Wealth Mohammed
Shamlan, the UNDP Country Director Silva Ramachandran noted that the
project of supporting promising sectors would include fishery,
agricultural, tourist, industrial projects.

He highlighted the projects the program would focus on in fishery
sector, especially on fish industries, fishery quality and fish
stocks protection.

A mission from the program will arrive in the coming January in
Yemen to formulate the project's final document and to identify the
priorities in these sectors to commence work in the second half of
next year, Ramachandran added.

For his part, the Minister Shamlan affirmed on the importance of the
project that would arrange the quality process for the products and
fish export to gain more revenues for fishermen.
