Actress takes top prize in Dubai
Hanoi (VNA) - Actress Hong Anh has won the best actress award at the
fifth Dubai International Film Festival, becoming the first Vietnamese actress
to win top honours at an established international festival.
Anh was honoured for her work in the film Trang Noi Day Gieng (Moon at the Bottom
of the Well). The film was directed by Nguyen Vinh Son, and adapted by writer Tran
Thuy Mai from one of her short stories.
Moon at the Bottom of a Well tells the story of a woman who finds that her
husband is supporting a second family in another village and reflects contemporary
Vietnamese life, said Son. The movie was shot in Hue in 2007, with
post-production completed this year in France .
The film also competed at the Busan International Film Festival back in October.
"This is a great encouragement for Vietnamese cinema," Hong Anh said at the awards
ceremony on Dec. 18 night in Dubai .
Hong Anh received a 10,000 USD cash prize in addition to the award, while the best
actor honours went to actor Askhat Kuchinchirekov from Kazakhstan for the film
