Heavy snow to hit S. Korea's northeastern region
SEOUL, Dec. 21 (Yonhap) -- Heavy snow was expected to hit the northeastern region
in South Korea starting late Sunday, weather officials said.
The Gangwon Province is under a heavy snow warning with 5 to 15 centimeters of
snow expected between Sunday and late Monday, according to the Korea
Meteorological Administration (KMA).
Up to 8 centimeters of snow will fall in the country's southernmost resort Jeju
Island. Seoul and the metropolitan area are expected to have around 1 centimter
of snow, the weather agency said.
Seoul will register a morning low of minus 9 C, while Daejeon, a city 164
kilometers south of Seoul, will drop to minus 6 C.
Most of the nation will see sub-zero cold with a high wind chill factor, the
officials said.
The cold snap is expected to last until Tuesday afternoon.
