Chidambaram demands arrest of those behind violence in TNCC HQ
New Delhi, Dec 21 (PTI) Indian Union Home Minister P
Chidambaram Sunday demanded that the government of the
southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu arrest those behind the
violence in the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC)
headquarters in the city of Chennai.
"I expect the state government to arrest those behind
the mischief," he said.
Supporters of pro-LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam)
party Viduthalai Siruthaigal (VCK) had Saturday allegedly
indulged in stone pelting at the Satyamurthy Bhavan, the
headquarters of the Pradesh Congress Committee in Chennai.
Congress provides key outside support to the
Dravida Munnetra Kazhgham (DMK) government in Tamil Nadu. VCK,
a minor, is also an ally of DMK.
The VCK men also clashed with Congress workers, who had
gone under the leadership of PCC President K V Thangkabalu to
Theni near Madurai to lodge a protest against VCK leaders'
speeches in support of LTTE and criticising late Rajiv Gandhi.
