UAE, Malta sign anti-drug trafficking accord
Riyadh, Dec 21, 2008 (WAM) - The United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Malta have signed an agreement for cooperation in fighting drug trafficking and organised crime.
The agreement was signed on behalf of Foreign Minister H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan by Al Asri Saeed Al Dhaheri, UAE Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, and the Maltese Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Godwin Montanaro.
Al Dhaheri described the agreement as "a fruit of strong and deep rooted ties of friendship and cooperation between the UAE and Malta." The agreement provides for exchange of information on persons and means involved in drug trafficking. It also seeks to facilitate cooperation in combating criminal groups, illegal financial transactions, currency counterfeiting and persons suspected to be members of organised criminal groups.
