Security preparations underway for world's largest camel festival
Madinat Zayed, Dec 21, 2008 (WAM) - As the world's largest camel festival is about to begin in Al Dhaffra, security protection for the much awaited event is being discussed at the Police Directorate in the Western Region in Abu Dhabi.
The Police will ensure round the clock help and assistance for the participants as well as the tourists who come to witness one of the world's rare contests, the camel beauty pageant.
The Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH) is organizing the 2nd Al Dhaffra Festival 2008/2009, under the patronage of HH General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, from 23rd December, 2008 to 4th January, 2009, at the Madinat Zayed, in the Western Region.
Last year, over 15,000 camels took part in the search for the world's most beautiful camel.
Al Dhaffra Festival aims to preserve the pedigree camels of the region, revive interest in Arab folklore festivities, activate cultural tourism, promote camel trade and boost the economy of the region by hosting the festival.
The wide range of events in the festival include camel beauty contest, camel auction, traditional Bazaar, handicrafts market, dates presentation competition, poetry contests, heritage activities, photo competition and Folklore Music and dance.
This year, the best poem in admiration of camel will be chosen in a contest participated by several reputed Arab Poets Director of Police in the Western Region Brig. Hamad Saeed Al Dhahiri called a meeting of the Heads of various sections to chalk out a plan for ensuring security protection for the event. This will include emergency help for the visitors, traffic control and any other necessary assistance.
A roaming workshop will be facilitated by the police to help visitors to repair their vehicles in case of a breakdown.
