Women's role in parliamentary, media development lauded

Manama, Apr. 29 (BNA): Information Minister Isa bin Abdulrahman Al Hammadi received member of the Council of Representatives and the parliamentary Services Committee Rua Al Haiki. He praised the role of Bahraini women in parliamentary work, developing the media sector in Bahrain and promoting the democratic and human rights march within the framework of the pioneering reform project of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
The minister paid tribute to Bahraini women for their success in proving their worth in various executive, legislative and judicial posts. He also commended their efforts in the economic and political fields thanks to the support of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW) chaired by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, the Wife of HM the King.
The minister discussed with MP Rua Al Haiki ways of boosting cooperation to further develop the media sector and the latest developments in preparing a comprehensive draft law for the media and telecommunication sector. They also reviewed ways of further empowering women in the media field and activating the equal opportunity unit in the Information Affairs Authority, in coordination with SCW. They discussed programmes to raise awareness of women's rights and their distinguished social status as well as combat family violence and all forms of discrimination against women.
