President Saleh receives phone call from Somali counterpart

SANA'A, Dec. 17 (Saba) - President Ali Abdullah Saleh received on Wednesday a phone call from his Somali counterpart Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed who briefed him on the latest developments in Somalia.

The conversation included also issues related to the piracy acts run by some Somali
pirates off the Somali coasts and in the Gulf of Aden and the Arab Sea in addition
to the anti-piracy efforts of Yemen and Somalia.

President Saleh reiterated Yemen's stand to secure security and stability and peace
in Somalia and reactivate the role of the Somali official institutions.

Saleh also renewed a call to the Arab countries and the international community to
shoulder their responsibilities towards what is happening in Somalia and to help the
Somali people to rebuild what have been destroyed by war and conflicts.

President Saleh affirmed that the exacerbated situation in Somalia will lead to
further insecurity and make Somalia a core of more problems related to the current
acts of piracy which threat the safety of the international navigation and global
trade and create the acts of terrorism in the region.

For his part, the Somali President expressed appreciation for Yemen's efforts in
support of security and stability in his country and receiving thousands of Somali
refuges fleeing the conflicts the wars in Somalia.
