UAE backs peace-making in region: Vice President

Dubai, Dec 18, 2008 (WAM) - Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai H. H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum expressed yesterday the UAE's support for efforts aimed at promoting and entrenching foundations of peace and stability in the region in cooperation with different countries of the world through the UN umbrella.

''It is in the interest of the UAE, the region and the world at large, that the culture of peaceful co-existence and inter-dialogue among cultures and nations prevails on the basis of mutual respect and recognition of the other,'' Sheikh Mohammed said yesterday during talks with visiting members of the US Senate Committee on Banking.

Sheikh Mohammed and the four Senators exchanged views on a host of economic topics of mutual concern and explored ways of boosting mechanisms of joint cooperation.

As they took stock of the situation in the Middle East and Gulf, Sheikh Mohammed briefed the US Congress delegation about his vision for achieving peace and stability in the region, which he summed it up in delivery of justice, equality and freedom for peoples of the region.

Sheikh Mohammed described these factors as keys to the aspired peace, security and development in the region.
