Dubai Maritime City unveils new eco-friendly facility for boat lift, cleaning and maintenance services

Dubai, Dec 17, 2008 (WAM) - Dubai Maritime City, the world's first purpose-built maritime centre and part of the Dubai World Group of companies, has announced that boat owners can now avail of new services within the integrated maritime centre including boat lifts, hull cleaning, general below waterline maintenance such as anode replacement, and re-launches in less than one hour. The new range of services were unveiled after Palm Marine Yacht Services recently completed the installation and commissioning of Sealift2, a unique rolling deck, floating dry dock platform at Dubai Maritime City.

The Sealift2 platform joins Dubai Maritime City's wide array of maritime services and amenities and strengthens the integrated maritime centre's capacity to serve the rapidly growing maritime sector, which is poised to accommodate up to 55,000 new berths within the next few years, substantially impacting the demand for lift, clean and maintenance services. Owned and operated by Palm Marine Yacht Services, the Sealift2 platform will lift all types of boats - motor and sail - of up to 50 tonnes in less than five minutes.

One of the core strengths of Dubai Maritime City is the quality of services and value-added features that it offers. The Sealift2 platform provides another dimension to the City's growing portfolio and ensuring excellence and customer satisfaction. Dubai Maritime City predicts that the new facility will be well-received by the growing community of boat owners not just in Dubai but in the whole Gulf region.

Steve Butcher, Chief Operating Officer at Palm Marine Yacht Services commented: "We wanted to enter the marine services market with an eco-friendly platform but without the usual delays associated with constructing the land-based infrastructure needed for conventional travel lifts. Sealift2 offered us that flexibility." The rolling deck design is an eco-friendly pneumatic dry dock that delivers the fastest lift times available in the industry and can lift boats up to 18 metres in length (17-meter waterline) with a maximum beam of 5.5 metres. It has been certified by Lloyds British Testing Limited to lift boats weighing up to 50 tonnes. Moreover, Sealift2 dock is an eco-friendly platform that collects all wash off and disposes of it strictly in accordance with local environmental laws, making it an important factor in maintaining Dubai's healthy marine environment.
