Top S. Korean, Russian diplomats to hold strategic talks
SEOUL, Dec. 15 (Yonhap) -- South Korea and Russia will have their first "strategic dialogue" in Seoul this week between top-level diplomats to discuss ways to promote bilateral ties and coordinate their policies on global issues, officials said Monday.
South Korean Vice Foreign Minister Kwon Jong-rak and Russian First Deputy
Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrey Denisov will represent their countries during
the meeting scheduled for Thursday, Moon Tae-young, spokesman for the South's
foreign ministry, told reporters.
The meeting is to follow up on an agreement signed in a summit between the two
countries in September to launch the strategic dialogue before the end of this
year.
"This strategic dialogue is expected to contribute to making high-level dialogue
channels between the two countries brisker," Moon said.
Bilateral relations as well as regional and global issues, including the global
financial crisis, will dominate the meeting, he added.
