Terrorist cell trial on February 24

Manama, Feb. 15. (BNA) – Advocate General and Chief Prosecutor of the Terror Crimes Prosecution Ahmed Al Hammadi has affirmed that the Prosecution has completed its investigation into the case of a terror cell that was responsible for a number of blasts aiming to disrupt public order and reach terrorist goals. The Prosecution referred twenty-six suspects, including sixteen remanded in custody, to the third High Criminal Court. It charged some of them with establishing, organising and running an illegal group for the sake of disrupting the implementation of the provisions of the law and preventing state institutions from exercising their wok, and using terror as a means to achieve their goals. It accused the remaining defendants of joining the cell although they were aware of its terrorist purposes. The cell was also accused of attempting to murder a policeman, training on using weapons and explosives, carrying out blasts, deliberate arson, damaging property and making, possessing and using explosive materials. It was also accused of possessing Molotov cocktails, holding un-authorised gatherings, rioting and hiding convicts. The Advocate General said the crimes were committed for terrorist purposes, adding that the crimes were proven by evidence from witnesses' statements, the examination of the seized items, and the confessions of the arrested suspects. He added that one defendant admitted he traveled to Iran, where he was trained on making bombs. He also admitted making a number of bombs after his return, which he used in terror blasts in Duraz. The hearing will be held on February 24, the Advocate General said, adding that the Prosecution ordered the quick arrest of the suspects still on the run.
