Delays likely as Telstra workers strike
Telstra customers are being warned to postpone any dealings with the company on Tuesday while union members take industrial action.
Community and Public Sector Union (CPSU) members will be on strike for four hours on Tuesday as part of a campaign to win a union collective agreement.
CPSU national president Louise Persse says customers are likely to expect longer than usual delays.
"Despite having more than 12 months to get their act together, Telstra management have failed to listen to their own employees and negotiate a union collective agreement," Ms Persse said.
"Staff are taking this action because they are tired of being bullied and ignored by Telstra management. Sometimes you just have to stand up to bullies."
Ms Persse said the purpose of the industrial action was to highlight Telstra's "management failures" rather than inconvenience Telstra's "long-suffering customers".
Union members say having a collective agreement will provide better pay and conditions for staff and better productivity for the company.
