Petrol prices continue to fall
The price of petrol is falling towards 90 cents a litre.
The price has been declining steadily for months and CommSec economist Craig James
believes it will keep going.
"Motorists should see more service stations offering petrol around 90 cents a litre
this week before prices lift from the lows in the new year," Mr James said.
Fresh data from the Institute of Petroleum shows the national average price of
unleaded petrol fell 3.2 cents in the last week.
The national average is now $1.05 a litre.
Mr James says there are some worrying signs on the horizon.
"The major risk to pump prices over the next few weeks is likely to rest with OPEC,"
he said.
The Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) will meet on Wednesday and
is expected to cut its production by up to two million barrels a day.
