Persian Gulf an ancient name
Bandar Abbas, Hormuzgan prov, Dec 15, IRNA
Persian Gulf is an ancient name well documented in history whereas
claims about the identity of the waterway date at most to a century
ago, said head of European Association of Iranology.
Carlo G. Cereti told IRNA on Sunday that currently, artifacts of
ancient Iranian civilization exist in some Arab countries indicating
Iran's prowess during the reign of emperors from various dynasties.
Cereti, an Italian who teaches history and linguistics in Rome
University, added that Persian Gulf dates back to an era when most of
the Arab countries were not even independent states.
"Based on documents and evidence, it is a mistake to give other name
to Persian Gulf and its name was Persian Gulf from ancient times," he
said.
Cereti, who specializes in the Achaemenid era and ancient Iranian
religions pointed out that Iran boasted one of the most important
civilizations both before and after the advent of Islam.
Following the advent of Islam, Iran became a main hub of Islam and
Iranian thinkers maintained the country's status in international
civilization by writing books in culture and literature, he recalled.
He further described Iranian poets and literary figures as honors of
the world.
Cereti visited Bander Abbas along with more than 200 distinguished
archaeologists to attend the Tenth International Congress on Iranian
Archaeology.
