Region's first conference on missile and air defence launched in Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi, Dec 15, 2008 (WAM) - Under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, the Middle East Missile and Air Defence Symposium (MEMAD) at the Armed Forces Officers Club in Abu Dhabi.
The region's first conference of its kind is organised by the Institute for Near East and Gulf Military Analysis (INEGMA).
The symposium features high-ranking military officials and top defence industry executives and experts who, in separate speeches, started discussions on the latest strategies, technologies, methodologies and tactics related to modern defence against ballistic missiles and airborne threats.
Speakers at the opening session included Major General Timothy R. Rush, Air National Guard Assistant to Commander, Air Force/United States Central Command Air Forces Ms. Mary Beth Long Assistant Secretary of Defence for International Security Affairs US Department of Defence General (R'td) Khaled Abdullah Al Bu-Ainnain, Former Commander, UAE Air Force and Air Defence, President INEGMA, The Honourable Dr. Abdullah Baha-Uddin Toukan Senior Fellow Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), Brig. Gen. Robert H. Woods Commanding General, 32d Army Air Missile Defense Command Dr. Ren Mathurin, Director of MICA Missile Program, Program Manager of SHORAD Missile Systems, D l gation G n rale pour l'armement (DGA), France pour l'armement (DGA), France.
