Memento to Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid enters Guinness Book

Abu Dhabi, Dec 13, 2008 (WAM) - A memento to be presented to HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance and Industry on the 10th Award ceremony of the prestigious 'Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences' has already entered the Guinness Book of World Records.
Minister of Health and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Award HE Humaid Al Qattami disclosed that the memento is prepared in appreciation of the patronage of the Award by Sheikh Hamdan.
The memento is a monolithic piece of pure silver with a diameter of one metre. The plaque designed in the form of a medal is plated in gold and engraved with the symbol of the award. The rare silver piece is entering the world of records as the single largest piece of a mineral.
Al Qattami said that it is the first time such a memento is being presented to Sheikh Hamdan, and will at bring the award to wider world attention.
Awards for excellence recognise contributions to the medical sciences under three main categories: international, Arab world, and United Arab Emirates.
