Life of Korean-born NFL star Hines Ward to be made into film

SEOUL, Dec. 12 (Yonhap) -- The story of American football star Hines Ward, born
of a Korean mother and an African-American father, is to be made into a film, a
production company announced Friday.

The Seoul-based CY Film said it would make a movie focused on how Ward was raised
in a single-parent home by a Korean mother who spoke very little English. After
his parents divorced, his mother worked three jobs to support him.
The 31-year-old receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers became a hero in South Korea
when he won the most valuable player award at the Super Bowl in 2006. After the
game, Ward visited South Korea with his mother.
"The stories of Ward's mother and of Ward growing as a sports star will be the
two axes of the film," CY Film said in a statement. "We will start shooting the
film next year. The release date is expected to be around the end of next year or
early 2010."
Last year, Ward donated US$50,000 to set up a charity foundation named the Hines
Ward Helping Hands Korea Foundation to help multiethnic children in South Korea.
