Italian SMI to set up solar energy plant in Aden at € 300 million
ADEN, Dec. 12 (Saba) – The Aden Free Trade Zone AFTZ and the Italian
SMI company have singed an agreement for the setting up of a first
of its kind plant in Yemen and in the region to produce energy from
the sun.
The state-run 26sep.net has reported the plant would be established
in Yemen's Free Trade Zone in Aden at a cost of € 300 million.
Head of the Aden Free Trade Zone Abdul Jalil al-Shuaibi said the
AFTZ and the company signed on Wednesday an agreement for the
establishment of the project under which the AFTZ will provide all
facilitations for setting up the project that would cover 5
hectares.
The plant will produce energy at a capacity of 200 megawatts
annually.
The agreement also calls for that the Italian company preparers
within 60 days from the signing date the general plan and suitable
designs for completing the project within a year as the head of the
company announced earlier, he said.
Al-Shuaibi said the project will be the biggest in the area,
pointing to almost 120 projects those have been licensed from 2000
until2008 at a cost of $ 886 million.
He said these projects could create 10.000 job opportunities.
