China issues statement without deal on verification issue
By Lee Chi-dong
BEIJING, Dec. 11 (Yonhap) -- China released a two-page statement Thursday to sum up the results of the six-way talks on the North Korean nuclear program with no significant contents on the top agenda item of how to verify Pyongyang's recent nuclear claims.
"The Parties evaluated the progress made towards agreement on terms for
verification," read the chairman's statement issued by China, which hosted this
week's talks also involving the U.S., Japan, Russia, and the two Koreas. It gave
no details on what progress was made.
"The Parties would welcome assistance and consultancy from the IAEA in the course
of verification," it added.
The two sentences were the only reference about the verification issue.
